Biographical / Historical

Ruth Brock Kramer was born December 26, 1891, in Carrollton Georgia. Ruth was born to Jefferson and Nancy Mitchell Brock. Ruth had three siblings, Samuel Mitchell Brock (b. 1888), Rachel Brock (b. 1894), and Benjamin Lane Brock (b. 1897). The Brock household was largely based in Calhoun, Alabama before moving to Carrollton, Georgia between 1900-1910.

In 1910, Ruth married Ernest G. Kramer (b. 1841) who was a prominent Carroll County resident and widower of Nellie Mandeville. After Ernest G. Kramer’s passing in 1911, Ruth was left with their wealth and home, colloquially known as Kramer house. During her life after 1911, Ruth maintained correspondence with many major figures in the Carroll County community, including Roy Mandeville and Irvine S. Ingram. Known for travelling, Ruth also maintained correspondence with others across the United States and Europe.

Ruth Brock Kramer is best remembered for her enthusiastic and prominent social involvement in the Carrollton community, serving as the organizing chapter regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as her efforts to care for and preserve Kramer house. Kramer and Brock street in the Carrollton area honor the impact both Ruth's maiden and married families have had on the community.
