Biographical / Historical
Dr. Stanley Caress (1957-2016) was a professor, faculty advisor, and programs director in political science at The University of West Georgia. He received his M.A. in political science from San Jose State University in 1974, and his doctoral degree in Political Science from the University of California - Riverside in 1978. At San Jose State University, he served on the Student Government Association and worked on the George McGovern for President campaign. Active in California state Democratic Party activities, he lost an election for a California State Assembly seat to an established member of the Assembly in a heavily Republican district. At UWG, Dr. Caress was active with the Carroll County Democrats and League of Women Voters. He taught in the areas of Public Administration, Administrative Processes and a host of other Political Science disciplines, and served as President of the Georgia Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration. He presented his research at numerous academic conferences and had over 30 published peer reviewed academic journal articles. He published two books through SUNY Press: Term Limits and Their Consequences: The Aftermath of Legislative Reform, and another on presidential impeachment.
