Biographical/Historical note

Delta Kappa Gamma Society was founded on May 11, 1929, by twelve women at the University of Texas in Austin. Its mission is to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education (www.dkg.org).

Psi State, Georgia, was founded on November 28, 1936, and the first chapter was organized in 1938 ("History of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society Psi State, Georgia," Volume I, found in Box 7, Item 1).

The Mu Chapter was founded on October 18, 1947 and geographically covered Carroll, Coweta, Heard, and Troup counties. Records do not indicate the exact date of dissolution.

Past Mu Chapter presidents included: Katie Downs of Carrollton (1947-1948), Martha Sue Jorday of Newnan (1954), and Buvena Rooks of Carrollton (1956-1960).
