Carroll County Grand Jury records
Scope and Contents note
This collection contains records from Carroll County's grand jury on a variety of cases. These were loose papers originally destined for destruction. Former archivist Myron House saved the documents and brought them to Special Collections. Within the collection, there are Confederate pension records, inquest papers, and pauper petitions from the turn of the twentieth century. The majority of documents, though, are true bills. The grand jury heard cases for the crimes of abandonment, adultery, murder, bigamy, and wife-beating. The true bills cover two time periods (1891-1918 and 1937-1948).
