Biographical / Historical

Angela Thompson Smith (born April 30, 1946, in Bristol, England) is a parapsychologist with a specialty in using remote viewing (RV) to search for missing persons. Thompson Smith's previous names include Angela Margaret Powell (birth name), Angela Roberts (1960s) and Angela Thompson (1980s). She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1993. Thompson Smith self identifies as a Caucasian female with a cultural affiliation of British and American citizenship and religious affiliation of Shamanic Minister.

Thompson Smith trained as a State Registered Nurse at Poole General Hospital in the United Kingdom and received a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Cardiff University in 1978. She earned a Masters of Science with a focus in Neonatal Neuropsychology and Infant Behavior from Manchester University Medical School in 1986 and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Saybrook University in 2001. Thompson Smith also received certificates in the areas of social work and non-profit management.

Since 1979, she worked as a researcher for a number of different organizations, including the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Laboratory (PEAR) at Princeton University. She is currently an independent researcher and writer at Mindwise Consulting where she also conducts training and consulting in remote viewing (RV).

In 1999, Thompson Smith was a Founding Board Member of the International Remote Viewing Association (IRVA) and has authored eight books on remote viewing and other topics.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Transferred to Ingram Library's Special Collections on August 23 and August 30, 2021. Addition donated July 2022.

Printed items from the Angela Thompson Smith papers were separated. They can be found in the library's catalog by searching Thompson Smith as a keyword. Videos of the International Remote Viewing Conference were also separated and are an archival collection entitled International Remote Viewing Association (IRVA) video collection (MS-0094)
