Biographical / Historical
The Black Student Alliance (BSA) was formed at West Georgia College in 1969, two years after the first African American student, Lillian James Williams, graduated from the school. It was the first student organization to form on campus for marginalized/minority students. At its inception, the purpose of the organization was "to promote dignity in the black people, increase understanding and the exchange of ideas between black and white students and promote the interest of West Georgia College" (West Georgia College Bulletin, 1970-1971).
