Biographical / Historical

In 1937, Seventh Congressional District alumni organized the first chapter of the West Georgia College Alumni Association. In 1973, the A&M Class of 1923 undertook the project of refurbishing the house now known as the Alumni House. Before being named the Alumni House, the building was home to four university presidents and their families: Dr. James E. Boyd, Dr. Ward B. Pafford, and Dr. Maurice K. Townsend. Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna and his family resided in the house for a brief time before the space became the hub for development and alumni services. in 1997, it was dedicated as the Alumni House.

Membership in the University of West Georgia Alumni Association is conferred upon all individuals who graduated from the University of West Georgia, the State University of West Georgia, West Georgia College, Bowdon College, or the 4th District Agricultural and Mechanical School.

The Alumni Relations office oversees alumni-related services and information such as the Alumni Association, the West Georgia College Foundation, and the Honor Roll of Giving. Membership in the Alumni Association is automatically conferred upon all graduates of the institution and is available, upon request, to those who have attended one year or more. Alumni Relations maintains communications with alumni and also provides a means by which they may make known to the college administration their opinions concerning present and future policies and practices of the College.
