The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), now the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among diverse institutions in Southern states that award associate, baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees. The mission of SACSCOC is enhancement of educational quality throughout the region and to improve the effectiveness of its member institutions. Institutions seek SACSCOC reaccreditation every ten years, with a fifth-year interim report required as well.
