In September 1966, West Georgia College (WGC) President James E. Boyd appointed a Committee on International Education. The International Education Committee was a subcommittee of The Faculty Senate, lasting into the 1980s. The committee would be responsible for assessing West Georgia’s past efforts in international education, investigating study abroad programs, faculty enrichment, and encouraging the infusion of international programs into the existing curriculum.

Other activities in the International Education Committee included cooperating with the Adult Education Department in extending WGC participation in the AED foreign visitors program, work for a tutorial program for foreign students, cooperating with the Library Committee to build resources on foreign countries, and working to develop a faculty and student exchange program with a Latin American College. The committee was most notably active in the investigation of programs and practices to improve serving the existing international students and expanding international interest and awareness.
