Scope and Contents note
This collection contains audiovisual files, artifacts, compact discs, constituent inquiries, correspondence, legislative records, newspapers, press releases, photographs, and state financial records relating to Bill Hamrick’s service in the Georgia State Senator from 2000 to 2007. A small portion of the collection is material from the tenure of Georgia State Senator Sam P. Roberts who served from 1997 until his death in 2000.
The constituent inquires have been sampled for historical content and value. Constituent inquires were removed that did not have substantial content.
The addition to the collection (dated December 16, 2016) contains a Mayoral Proclamation, biographical forms, magazines and pamphlets, drafts of bills, briefs, constituent and lobbyist letters, tables and graphs, lists and handwritten notes, press releases, newspapers and press clippings, business cards, emails and other printouts, spreadsheets, campaign literature, and materials related to the inauguration of Governor Nathan Deal. It also contains artifacts including a desk plate, campaign signs (2), a commemorative pencil, lapel pins, name tags and name badges, Falcons football passes, and a State Flag of Georgia.

Biographical/Historical note
William (Bill) G. Hamrick III was born October 6, 1964 and graduated from Carrollton High School. Hamrick received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Auburn University, and then in 1992 earned a law degree from Georgia State University. Hamrick practiced law in Carrollton. Prior to serving as a Georgia State Senator, Hamrick worked on the Governor’s Task Force for Drug Suppression, and in DeKalb County as an intern prosecuting criminal cases. Hamrick was also the Seventh District Congressional Liaison with the Carroll County Republican party and he was in 1998 the Republican nominee for House District 101. Following the death of Georgia State Senator Sam P. Roberts, Hamrick won the 30th District Senate seat in 2000. Senate District 30 encompasses parts of Carroll, Douglas, and Paulding counties.
During his time in office Hamrick has served on a range of different committees, including chairing the Committee on Higher Education from 2003 to 2004. He chaired the Banking and Financial Institutions Committee from 2005 to 2006. He served on the Judiciary Committee from 2001 to 2010, and he chaired it from 2010 to 2012. He co-chaired a committee that would ensure the HOPE scholarship program would remain viable for future Georgians. Hamrick also served on the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of Carrollton First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Long Range Planning Committee. Hamrick was named by Trend Magazine as one of the forty rising stars under the age of 40 in Georgia in 2002. In 2012, Hamrick was appointed as a Superior Court judge serving the Coweta Judicial Circuit by Governor Nathan Deal.

The legislative papers of Bill Hamrick, Georgia State Senator from 2000-2012, who represented District 30, which is comprised of sections of Carroll, Douglas, and Paulding counties. Hamrick currently serves as a Superior Judge in the Coweta Judicial Circuit.
