Biographical / Historical
Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) John W. Sorbet was born on June 28, 1926, in Perry, Louisiana, to Robert and Amanda Sorbet. LTC Sorbet served in the United States military for 33 years - spending three years in the Navy, three years in the Army Reserves, and 27 years in the Army. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. During that time, he honed skills in communications technology and management and briefed the President of the United States and the Secretary of State on numerous occasions.
After retiring from military service in 1978, he moved to Douglas County, Georgia, and later Carrollton. He loved gardening, pistol shooting, coaching youth sports, fishing, attending church, and traveling with his family in Europe and the United States. LTC Sorbet looked forward to Friday morning breakfasts with his friends where they shared war stories and tales about life. He was married to his wife, Ann Sorbet, for 59 years and they had 8 children together. LTC Sorbet died in Carrollton on January 5, 2019, at the age of 92.
