Scope and Content
The Department of Psychology records contain manuscripts written by Myron “Mike” Arons, James “Jim” Klee, and Albert Michael Weber. Papers and addresses given by Mike Arons and Jim Klee can be found at the University of West Georgia Department of Psychology website: http://www.westga.edu/psydept/index_8268.php.
This collection includes West Georgia University publications from the Department including The Crucible, The Disorientation Handbook, Phenomenanda, and Searchings. All of these newsletters were published by graduate students in the Department of Psychology.
The general records contain surveys and self audits. Andrew Bland is the compiler of news articles from the Department from The West Georgian newspaper dating 1963-2003. Audiovisual materials, including video cassettes and reel-to-reel tapes are also included.

Administrative History
While psychology of offered at West Georgia College, largely by Professor Alice Nix, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology wasnot established until September 1963. In 1967, Department of Psychology faculty member, Jim Thomas, began investigating a type of psychology education that resonated with students’ lives. At the suggestion of Abraham Maslow, Dr. Myron “Mike” Arons was chosen to head the Department in November 1968. Arons is credited with being the champion of the “humanistic” approach to psychology that is still being practiced today at the University of West Georgia.
