Biographical/Historical note

Howard Edward Taylor was born to Edward W. Taylor and Josephine Armstrong Taylor in Fort Worth, Texas on February 1, 1922. He received a B.A. in mathematics from Rice Institute (now Rice University), a M.S. in meteorology from Cal Tech, a M.A. in mathematics from Rice University, and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Rice University.

During World War II, Taylor served in the United States Army-Air Corp as an instructor in meteorology and held the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Taylor taught math at Florida State University from 1950 until 1969, when he decided to come to West Georgia College. At WGC, Taylor served as Callaway Professor of Mathematics until his retirement in 1987.

Taylor was married to Mary Ellis Taylor and they had three children: Grady Taylor, John Taylor, and Nancy Taylor. He passed away on April 8, 2009 after battling cancer.
