J. Bruce Bobick is a native of Pennsylvania. He received the B.S. degree in Art Education and the M.Ed. in Art Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. He was assistant professor of art at Western Illinois University 1968-1972 and associate professor of art there 1972-1976. Bobick was an associate professor of art at West Georgia College from 1976-1981 before being promoted to professor of art in 1981. He served as the chair of the Department of Art from 1979 until his retirement in 2005.

Bobick has won over fifty awards for his artwork, including first place for a Watercolor at the 6th Annual Georgia National Fair, in Perry, Georgia in 1995, First Prize for the "1982 Georgia Watercolor Society Member Exhibition" in Gainesville, Georgia, in 1982, and the Pittsburgh National Bank Award for "Aqueous Open '78" at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Loretto, Pennsylvania, in 1978. His professional affiliations include the Professional Practices Committee: College Art Association of America from 1999-2001, the National Watercolor Society in Los Angeles, California, the Watercolor USA Honor Society Board of Directors in 1997, and the Georgia Watercolor Society, where he has served on the Board of Directors since 1979. He has several local commissions for his artwork, including a watercolor titled "Butterfly Triptych II" at the Ramada Inn in Carrollton, Georgia, the "Sporangium Disseminating Spores" ceramic mural in the Ingram Library, and the "Syncopatic Leaf Forms" watercolor and acrylic panels at the Townsend Center for Performing Arts, both at the University of West Georgia.
