Biographical/Historical note

The Confederate States of America (CSA) was a secessionist government established in 1861. It originally consisted of seven states: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. Other states such as Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Virginia joined later after fighting began. During the Montgomery Convention of 1861, these states met in order to create a constitution and elect officials. During this convention, Jefferson Davis became provisional President and Alexander Stephens provisional Vice-President until November 6 of that same year when both were officially elected to their respective offices. In regards to their constitution, it took much from the government of the United States, although they attempted to give more power to the states. The Confederacy lasted until the end of the Civil War when various factors brought on by weak government, poor economy, and intense warfare caused the collapse of the government and the readmittance of the eleven seceded states back into the Union.
