Biographical/Historical note

The Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park (CCVMP) is a non-profit organization located within Carroll County, Georgia. The organization was created in 1999 by a group of Carroll County citizens, under the leadership of Norris Garrett who has been the acting president of the organization since its beginning. Construction of CCVMP began on November 11, 2000 and it continues through 2013 with the construction of a twenty-second Wall of Honor. The park currently contains twenty-one Walls of Honor with 1,008 individual plaques, a series of Killed in Action walls, an MIA/POW wall, an Emblem Wall, and a Contributor Wall of Honor.

The purpose of CCVMP is to create a park that would honor military veterans of the United States of America who currently live, or have previously lived, within Carroll County and that were enlisted and honorably discharged within any American conflict beginning with the American Revolution. The main priority of CCVMP is to provide Carroll County veterans an appropriate memorial in which to assemble during Memorial Day, Veterans Day, or any other opportunity to honor their service. Another priority also being a creation of a place for loved ones to come to remember those loved ones lost within various military conflicts.

Overview

The Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park (CCVMP) is a non-profit organization created in 1999 by a group of Carroll County citizens, under the leadership of its president Norris Garrett, to provide a memorial for all Carroll County veterans that served the United States military and were honorably discharged. The park remains under construction in 2013, adding a twenty-second wall of individual plaques that serve to honor various veterans and their sacrifice.

The collection is arranged into four series: Administrative Records; Wall of Honor Files; Scrapbooks; Blog Posts; and Administrative Records.

Donated by Violette H. Denney, Treasurer of the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park, in August 2013 and February 2020.

Processed by Candice Larson in 2013 and MacKenzie Wright in 2020.

In February 2016, CCVMP volunteers removed DD-214 forms from the CCVMP records in Special Collections in compliance with the 1974 Privacy Act. DD-214 forms for individual veterans can be accessed through the Carroll County Courthouse, Clerk of the Court's Office.
