 Series
Identifier: II.

Scope and Contents note

From the Collection:

This collection contains material compiled by Thomas J. Mackel. It contains three series: (I) Hurricane Katrina resettlement material, (II) Political campaign material, and (III) Georgia state flag.

The Hurricane Katrina resettlement material includes records related to the resettlement of refugees from Hurricane Katrina in the University of West Georgia's Roberts Hall in 2005. Included are correspondence, statistical material, and explanations of refugee policies and procedures.

The political campaign material contains bumper stickers, campaign buttons, and other campaign materials for many major party American candidates of the twentieth century. Mackel collected material from Republican and Democratic candidates as a personal hobby. Included are a large number of campaign buttons for 1940 Republican presidential nominee Wendell Willkie, along with campaign materials for George Wallace, Richard Nixon, John Connally, George McGovern, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and others.

The Georgia state flag includes the last Georgia state flag flown over the University of West Georgia before the state flag was changed in 2003 to remove Confederate iconography.
