Scope and Contents note

From the Collection:

The bulk of the recordings are oral history interviews conducted by Myron W. House, former Special Collections Librarian in Ingram Library, University of West Georgia, from 1980 to 2006. The interviews deal predominantly with the history of West Georgia College and surrounding communities in Carroll County and Douglas County, including the cities of Carrollton, Villa Rica, Bowdon, and Bremen. Interviewees reflect on various aspects of their lives and local history. Some speak about their time at West Georgia College either as a student, faculty or staff. Other topics include the Great Depression, the development of Carroll County, the A&M School, and their family history. A majority of the interviews were conducted in the 1980s.

Another group of the recordings are talks given by various individuals at the Carroll County Historical Society and the Carroll County Genealogical Society. The topics for these speeches range from "Copying, Restoration and Care of Old Photographs" to "Burned Courthouses in Georgia."

This collection also contains several recordings of Sacred Harp music. Recordings were made at Holy Springs Primitive Baptist Church, Berea College, and Chattahoochee Convention by the Sea Island Singers, Continental Harmony, Berea College Choir and Vermont Harmony.
