1938 commencement address by Embree, president of Rosenwald Fund, to University of Georgia; 1939 letter from ISI to Board of Regents about appropriateness of Rosenwald Fund support for rural education programs through WGC; letter to ISI from Rosenwald Director for Negro Health urging him to hire a Negro nurse in county health program; correspondence related to establishing the Rural Life Department at WGC with Ed Yeomans as director and Dag Folger on faculty; in 1941 ISI wrote to Embree about needing Rosenwald Fund in this crisis, also referred to political difficulties and distressing conditions in Georgia in 1941-1942, referring to Gov. Eugene Talmadge's racist-motivated actions toward state educators; doubt expressed about permanent value of subsistence gardens and farming as having educational merit; ISI says he is peeved with Ed Yeomans at times and has followed Embree's advice about cleaning up their own county before going into other counties; Embree sent ISI paintings by Jacob Lawrence, Charles Alston, and Tom Lea who were supported by Rosenwald Fellowships; persistent invitation from ISI to be commencement speaker, which Embree turns down
