Records related to Department of Art exhibitions at West Georgia / State University of West Georgia / University of West Georgia from 1979 to 2023. There are also some records related to Bruce Bobick's artistic career.
Series one contains correspondence, gallery schedules, exhibition announcements, exhibition guides and catalogs, printed programs, invitations, memoranda, letters of agreement, samples, newspaper articles, schematics, flyers and posters, press releases, vitas and resumes, artist statements, biographical summaries, photographs, slides, negatives, menus, drafts of exhibit labels, brochures, and greeting cards. Subjects covered include exhibitions by invited artists and WGC/SUWG art faculty; art faculty shows in other locations in Georgia, Alabama, and Finland; the annual student art show; the department's travelling exhibitions; and the department's artist-in-residence program.
Series 2 includes a ceramic teapot created by Joy Somerset in 1979.
Of special note is information on the creation of the West Georgia College ceremonial mace by Spring 1992 artist-in-residence Richard Hill and first used at the inauguration of President Beheruz Sethna (May 17, 1995).
